Hey Everyone,
Besides all the hullaballoo over the dramatic drop in everyone's chances today, I had another question about the CollegeVine Chancing Software. I believe that it does not take into account the type of school that you come from (Public, Private, Charter, Religious, Etc.).
Based on what y'all know, do you think that it would effect the chancing results if this factor were taken into account? Also, would you mind elaborating on how it might effect chances for me? I attend a Charter School (Public/State-Funded but Smaller than Public).
You can find a definition of what a Charter school is by simply Googling "Charter School Definition"
Any insight would be appreciated! You don't have to be detailed or entirely sure of your answer; I just want get an idea of what y'all think. But, if you for sure know how this would effect chances, please do share!
I absolutely think that this would affect the chancing results. I think CollegeVine takes in where you live for state schools that prioritize in-state students, but that is about the only distinction in the type of institution. I went to a private middle school that was part of a PreK-12 private school and left because it just wasn't the place for me, but I definitely saw that many independent schools were really pipelines to certain private universities (pretty good ones, too).
I don't know how being in a charter school would affect chances unless it was one of the ones where you have to apply to get in (because it would show long-term academic commitment, so it might help you?), but I go to a magnet/technical school and I am also curious about what you're talking about. I study Biomedical Science, which I feel would give me an advantage for bioscience or pre-med majors, and that's something they could also take into account.
