How do I figure out the unique qualities of a specific school?
Answered

I am trying to write the UMICH Why Us? Essay and am having a hard time figuring out some UMICH-specific qualities that match with who I am. How do I find this out? Planning to double major in Financial Math and Statistics and hoping to get into a quantitative finance program.

Hi,

I would always start by taking a deep dive into the schools website. Look for things like professors you would be excited to learn from or do research with. Programs that aren’t offered by other schools e.g extra certificates you can obtain … You could also look at the types of activities the school hosts for its students. Are students invited to conferences, can you do research with faculty early on ? You can also talk about the required curriculum and why that suits your interests.

Is your major unique to this school ? If so that is a good thing to talk about ! Financial maths seems to be a very specific major and not many schools are likely to offer it so talk about what drove you to do that and how the required classes will help your future aspirations.

Hope this helps

I believe that will be on their website, but if it's not on there, ask your counselor.

Well look into some of the professors ,that teach something you need for your double major, find someone you think you can relate/connect with and talk about that.
