Want to major in some from of music/music theory, but don't want to addition
Answered

Howdy, everyone.

I am looking at going into a field related to music in some fashion or another. My skill right now is in composition. I've been teaching myself theory for the better part of two years, and can confidently say I know my craft at least well.

I am practicing and polishing my piano skills, and while I would say I am good, I am not at the level I think I may need to be.

Is it possible to go into college, get a BA in something music-related, and then move on to possibly getting a master's in the field I want when I am comfortable auditioning?

Or could I just go into music theory without the need to audition at all?

Thank you!

While I'm not super educated on this topic, I would say that if you're going to go into BA in music, I think you'll have plenty of time to figure out your Master's Degree, so I would just focus on getting into college and your first degree instead of jumping into your second. Plus you'll have 4+ years to refine your music skills, so don't worry about "not being good enough," most people going into music majors arent exactly expert musicians in freshman year.

Hope that helps!
