Is it better to use one of the non-general prompts for the Common App Personal Essay?
Answered

I'm approaching the final revisions of my Common App Essay, and I've realized that my essay sorta fits some of the prompts, but I didn't write it specifically for those prompts so nothing is specifically stated/related to the prompt.

My plan after rereading my first draft was to submit it under the general prompt. Would it reflect better on my essay if I chose one of the more specific prompts, despite the essay not being specifically written for those prompts?

General prompt: "Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design."

I am applying to University of Maryland: College Park, in case that changes anything.

Hi, it really should not matter. If your essay was not written -for- one of those other prompts, then it is unlikely that it will be focused on it.

They put the general prompt there because it is an option. It seems like it would be most appropriate for you, so I would recommend using it.

Best wishes!
