British student wanna do Neurosurgery in USA.

Hi, hope you’re doing well.

So I am based in London, UK. Studying psychology bachelors degree as a 1st yr student. My career plan is to become a Neurosurgeon. I am currently 20 and will finish my bachelors at 23yrs of age. Then I’ll apply for graduate entry medicine. Though unsure whether to complete in UK or USA. May I ask what are the pros and cons of each if I complete medicine in uk and do training/residency in USA or do medicine in USA and follow by training/residency? Either way, I must complete my residency for Neurosurgery in USA and it’s too time consuming in UK. May I ask how many years exactly training will be before residency as in uk we are required to do f1/2 years which are 2 years followed by another two years for practicing general medicine and surgery then choosing your residency. May I ask what age I would be whether I complete my residency in USA considering I’ll be 27 years old when finished with medicine.

Thank you for reading this and I appreciate any advice and discussions. :)

Hello there!

Let me just say that this CollegeVine is mainly for high schoolers applying for college, meaning admissions, extracurriculars, essays, etc. The kind of questions you're asking would be more relevant for med school experts or other people in the same field, rather than a bunch of 15 to 18-year-olds. You may also find help on the internet through googling questions like the pros/cons of medicine in the UK vs US, as I don't think this community would be ideal for that.

Good luck on becoming a Neurosurgeon, and I hope you get your questions answered somehow!

Hope that helps.
