hi. im a freshman in high school and i'm not the kind of person who has their whole future planned out. i go with whatever happens. but i have started stressing out about college lately and as a freshman, i know there isn't much i can to do, just focus on keeping up my grades and building my profile. i would be really grateful if i got more ideas for extra-curricular activities, anything to do with biology and psychology since those are the subjects im focusing on. activities concerning other subjects would be helpful too. thank you.
thank you!
The number one activity I'd recommend joining is Science Olympiad. They work on science-related projects in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, Engineering, and Forensics. These projects are entered into competitions and winning an award looks nice on college applications. But if you're looking for something that focuses mainly on biology, see if your school has any earth or environment clubs and if they don't offer any you could start one.
Like the other comments recommended, I would suggest looking into national competitions/ organizations. If your school has a chapter, I would recommend joining HOSA. (Health Occupations Students of America)
Create an internet campaign to collect something for a local zoo and or particular animal.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
I posted about sci oly, but also, you can possibly volunteer with middle schoolers and tutor them in biology, start an online community, or email people at a local university or community college asking if they have research opportunities for high schoolers (if they offer biology and psychology-related stuff there!)
