Is Sanskrit considered as a foreign language for US admissions?
Answered

I am from India and my school offered only 2 languages from my 6th class. Sanskrit and French. I took Sanskrit and will continue to take it till 10th ( 4 years). So will that be counted as a foreign language. And for your information, Sanskrit is a language which is not used by Indians apart from some people who actually study it or do literature.

Hi!

While I'm not 100% certain, I personally believe admissions would consider Sanskrit is a foreign language. I'm not sure if US admissions have a box for it, but you could always put in on the "other" box. It is classified as a language and you are putting in work and effort to learn it.

If it turns out that they don't, you also have French as a back-up. Learning this uncommon language would also be something great to write an essay about. Like you said, not many people use it, so it would be something that sets you apart from other applicants.

Sorry I don't have any more information, but I hope this is a good start!
