How should I rank Wharton Essentials of Entrepreneurship Summer Program? (ECs)

I got in!! And I am going. I wish I knew the percentage acceptance rate and precise selectivity of the program besides the mere "selective" used to describe it on its website. How would I rank it as an extracurricular on CollegeVine?

Doing this is a 3c. To get a 2, you would have to compete with other high achievers for a free summer program.

Tier 3c: Strong

I did the equivalent of ANY of the following:

I participated in study abroad through my school

I attended a paid summer program requiring an application

But there’s other programs (given as examples) in the 2 tier that have a tuition, like Notre Dame Scholars, that one’s pretty expensive too. So I think it’s determined more by how selective it actually is and that’s where I’m confused, because there are no acceptance rates posted anywhere.

Short paid programs rarely give one any kind of intellectual curiosity or vitality bump because the selection process is not merit based. Rather, they admit anyone who they feel will complete the program without difficulty because they have their reputation to uphold. Regardless of what the CV scale indicates, unless you are earning college credit from these institutions, their academic weight lags taking APs, IBs and college classes.

I read somewhere on reddit or quora that even Harvards summer program has a 60-70% admit rate.

UPenn summer courses are not at all difficult to enroll in; they have open enrollment, with no application necessary - you just sign up and pay the fees.

As such, they are unlikely to help you with college admissions, other than possibly demonstrating that you have shown an interest in UPenn.

Did you attend the program? My daughter got into it and today is the deadline to accept it. Any feedback is appreciated.

Oh god I completely forgot about this, no please don't!! I found out it was a "pay-to-play" program, I mean you're paying nearly $7k and it doesn't even cover all your meals. They will accept nearly anyone. I decided not to attend because it's pretty much a scam. Some summer programs are genuinely selective and worth attending, but only if they have prestige and little to no cost. They should want you to go, not just your money.

For example, the NJ Governor's School summer program is no cost I think. There are also internships I'm sure you can find.

Oh we already made the non refundable deposit of $1500. Rest is due next week. My daughter is 14 years old so she does not qualify for most of the programs because of age. She read this thread, and now she is reconsidering it, however, I still feel it will give her some experience . Cd you please recommend any other programs?
