My school doesn’t offer honors classes because they said that all the classes are taught on a rigorous level. This means that some college applicants who did the SAME amount of work as me will have a gpa that is >4 while mine is only a 4. What should I do?
As others have said, colleges will receive a school report from your guidance counselor which explains their policy of not offering honors classes. Colleges will keep this in mind and will not compare you to students at other schools who did take honor classes. Colleges will want to see that you took the most rigorous course load given your circumstances - if your school offers AP or IB classes, they will want to see you take those. You could also self-study for AP exams or do dual enrollment to stand out academically. Hope this helps!
Colleges always look at what your school has to offer. If your school doesn't have any honor classes, they wont count it against you. But if your school offers AP or dual enrollment courses you can try to take those.
Colleges will take your school's policy regarding AP and honors classes and the amount they offer into account, therefore you should have a fair chance with admissions. If your school's maximum GPA is a 4.0 then your GPA will be judged with that in mind. If applicable, try to take extra classes or dual enrollment courses. Just keep at it!
