Hello! I've always wanted to have an online space where I collaborate and write about news and interview influential people. I reached out to a friend and we're starting this together. I already have some interviews lined up with family (my eldest sister is a software engineer and my older sister goes to Harvard).
My question is: how do I set up the business? Do I need to fill out an LLC even though it's just an online newspaper? (I want to grow this to be pretty big so I want to have all sides covered.)
Thank you!
Hi, thank you for asking your question. Firstly, I would like to add that this answer is not financial or legal advice. That being said, from a building a business perspective, you should try starting first by writing stories and interviewing people. The creation side of your business does not need the incorporated status, feel free to start that newspaper! As long as you aren't monetizing you won't need to incorporate, and even if you are sometimes you don't need to incorporate. The main reasons to incorporate yourself is for tax and legal reasons that are a little above my expertise. I would suggest you reach out to a knowledgable adult or legal representative for this. Here's a blog post that might help.
