AP/Honors/College courses

I was just wondering how to take honors/AP classes, as well as college courses, in my freshman year of high school. Should I talk to my school counselor?

Hello!

I recommend taking all required electives ( Health, Professional communications, PE, Spanish) in your 8th-grade year. I took the Spanish by credit exam which gave me all three credits for Spanish which led me to take AP Spanish language my freshman year. I don't believe you can take any more AP in your freshman year but ask your counselor if you can take all your other classes in Advanced placement.

Hi! 9th grade year I took pre-Ap classes that will count towards my honors, I highly recommend them! They are barley harder (at least at my school) and often it’s the same work! I do not believe they offer AP and Honors to anyone in 9th grade unless it’s history. College classes are only offered to mostly 11th and 12th depending on schools. Personally I think stick to the pre-Ap and then soon as possible go higher! In the mean time, I would sign up for as many college websites as possible! I’m a sophomore but will be a junior in august, I already have the college of my dreams reaching out to me!

It is best in your freshman year to take as many required electives (Health, PE, Art, Financial Lit.) as you can in addition to the honors standard courses (Eng., Math, History, Sci) if you are fit for them. I would talk to your counselor about how to apply for the honors classes for freshman year but also what your rough plan will be through senior year including AP and college courses.
