How to prepare for college applications as a somewhat average student?
Answered

I am a junior in high school and I have an unweighted gpa of 3.9, barely any extracurriculars and no AP classes (though I applied to take 4 in senior year).

I want to major in computer science and I know it is a competitive major to get into. Is there a way for me to make my college application stand out as a rising senior(current junior) in high school?

Hello! Even without AP classes, your GPA is extremely good (basically all As!). So, I would not worry too much about that aspect of your application.

You mentioned a passion for computer science. If you want your extracurriculars to reflect your interests, I recommend taking a college course in CS over the summer. Or, for a slightly less rigorous route, you can check out online classes that relate to CS (such as Girls Who Code, Codecademy, and Code Wizards.)

To make your application stand out, I recommend trying out a few new extracurriculars, showing an interest in rigorous coursework, and thinking about your essays early on.

Hope this helps!
