I’m currently a sophomore is HS, and I want to eventually go into the medical field. I either want to be a Physicians Assistant, or a Nurse Anesthetist. I’m looking for some extracurriculars that I could do that would maybe apply to these types of jobs. My goal school is University of Michigan.
Start a medical club at your school
Thank you so much, Ill plan on starting that club next year! I believe you have to be sixteen to shadow a doctor, so I plan on doing that after my birthday this summer!
im in the same boat! umich is upon my list of colleges i'd like to go to as well. even volunteering at hospitals is a great way to show interest! my school offers an outside resource to let us take a hands-on medical career or nursing career course that allows you to get a certification to start getting clinical hours before college begins, try figuring out if your school or state offers a similar oppurtunity! try an internship or getting a job as something even as simple as a receptionist at a hospital because you'll be dealing with actual cases and filing them for patients etc etc.
internships/shadowing, HOSA are 2 options.
I recommend reading this CollegeVine blog post for some medicine-related extracurricular ideas. Hope this helps!
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Reach out to your local doctor's office (peds, optometrist, etc etc) if you can intern / shadow / work there.
