I am currently a sophomore and am taking all advanced classes, only core classes, but I have been struggling in my chem class all year. I currently have a C but that is counted as a B on my weighted GPA. Will this mess up my transcript? Will colleges care?
It would depend on your GPA, but this should not affect your GPA to the extreme. While this will be on your transcript, I do not think College's will care that much about a "C" in your sophomore year. If you show improvement in other areas and Chem is your only "C" then you should be fine.
The chance that this will mess up your GPA is mild/severe it will however bring down your GPA by at least 0.4-0.5 points. So in terms of your GPA it will not ruin your chances unless it's pretty low, but if your GPA is 3.0-4.0 or higher you're in the green zone. so one c would probably bring it down a little to none
Hey!
I am a junior in high school currently.
My sophomore year was really rough and due to covid and the hospitalization of my mom, as well as a lack of general motivation, I finished my sophomore year with a couple of C's.
In my experience, as long as you demonstrate an upward grade trend (your grades improve throughout high school), you will be absolutely fine. One C in your transcript will not greatly impact your GPA and if it is a rare occurrence some colleges will just consider it a fluke.
Colleges will probably look past it if that is the only class you've ever really struggled with as reflected per your grades. However, I think since weighted GPA is different across all schools, colleges might look at unweighted for a clearer idea of your grades.
