Since it's almost summer, I've been thinking about volunteering opportunities. Being an underclassman, my age limits me (for example, I would love to volunteer at a hospital since I'm interested in nursing but I am not yet old enough to do that in my area).
I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for organizations or just types of volunteering (possibly related to healthcare, or just working with people), maybe even if it's through an online format.
Thanks!
hello! there are definitely so many different opportunities for volunteering! here are some ideas...
-nursing home! (they almost always need volunteers, and it can look fantastic for a prospective nursing major!)
-local food pantry
-runs/walks! over the summer these are popular, you can look up runs/walks in your area and sign up to volunteer on the website! (ex. color run, etc.)
good luck! hope this helps! :)
Hello @blair17!
Check out this CollegeVine blog for a comprehensive guide on ECs for aspiring nurses. https://blog.collegevine.com/extracurricular-activities-for-the-aspiring-nurse. Is it possible for you to volunteer at a local homeless shelter, food pantry, church, or other charitable organization?
If you don't have suitable volunteering opportunities due to your age limit, you could broaden your options. You could, for example, volunteer at your local zoo, library, or summer school programs. Again, because I don't know where you live, you should check with your counselor for a complete list of programs in your district.
I hope this information is useful; best of luck volunteering!
I know the National Student Leadership Conference has different camps for certain careers, although I’m not sure if their application deadline has closed.
But, aside from nursing specific, you could take Red Cross training courses like First Aid and CPR. You could also work as a lifeguard or camp counselor, since that way you can help people and also work with communicating with others. You could also work at a nursing home or daycare.
Good luck!
