Good Target Schools for Black Female?
Answered

I’m not sure what colleges I should I apply for that aren’t TOO TOO easy for me to get into and give decent amount of merit aid for students out-of-state?

INFO:

- black female, upper-middle class, not first-gen

- 33 act (35 English, reading, 30 sci, 31 math)

- 3.94 uw/ 4.2 W, will be around 4.3-4.4 by the end of senior year

- 2 APs, 1 college class so far. will have 5 APs and 2-3 college classes by graduation

- kumon instructor 2 years

- Academic Coach for writing and reading with UPchieve (estimated 40-100 hours by graduation)

- library volunteer, 20 hours

- potential staff writer for mental health website

- oncology clinic volunteer (37 hours)

- might join writing/psychology club

I’m interested in majoring in psychology or any type of cognitive science.

I’ve only taken 2 years of a foreign language (will hopefully take French 3 senior year)

I’m looking for some diversity and not too busy environment. Hopefully relatively affordable as well (I want to be as financially stable as possible)

My SAFETY schools I’ve been considering are:

- usf (89) in state

- NC state (85) out of state

- ??? Idk

Targets are like… umiami (44), chapel hill (44), wake forest (43 but not diverse), ???

You have really good stats.

Definitely take at least 3 years of French. It's important to have 3 years of a language.

I'd strongly advise you to take the ACT again and spend this summer working on Science and Math. Using some good resources I upped my score from a 33 to 35 and had the same composite components. For the Love of ACT Science, College Panda ACT workbook and guide and if you can take the SuperTutorTv ACT online course for $250. It's really good.

With a 35, I think I'd recommend applying to the following schools:

I think you'll have a better chance for Merit Aid with a 35 ACT, maybe even get a Presidential scholarship at some of those.

-Villanova (target)

-American (target)

-Syracuse (target)

-SMU (target)

-University of Virginia (hard target/reach)

-Washington University in St.Louis

-Tulane (hard target/reach)

-Emory (target/reach)

-NYU (reach)

-Davidson (hard target)

-University of Richmond (target)

-Washington & Lee (hard target)

-William & Mary (target/hard target)

Good luck

If you're not first gen, perhaps look into the colleges your guardians attended because most schools offer legacy scholarships/ grants. You can get into many schools with a GPA like that and ACT scores plus all your extracurriculars, just search up which ones have your majors of interest. Universities in large cities tend to be more diverse, so places like UCLA or University of Washington in Seattle are good options I think.

I think you should refer to the simulator and on-site resources for chancing/searching for schools.
