Does taking a dual enrollment class in the summer look good for college applications?
Answered

I heard that the summer before your senior year is essential. I'm a rising senior, and this summer, I decided to take one honors class (economics with financial literacy) and a dual enrollment class at my local community college (general business) for fun (my transcript consists of the full IB diploma, few APs, and honors classes and regular classes); on top of that, I also have an internship this summer in a marketing agency. How would college look at that?/would that make me stand out even if my GPA may be below average (due to personal reasons that I went through 9th and 10th grade that I will mention in the application)

Ps. I'm planning on applying to t50 school/state schools, not really ivies.

Yes, pursuing that class would look amazing on your college applications! It not only shows your interest in higher education and your willingness to put time into it even over the summer, but it also shows colleges that you like doing the things you want to pursue. In some ways, I guess it could "make up" for your low GPA, but I wouldn't consider that too big of a factor. For T50, the colleges may not exactly accept the credit that comes from the class you take, but it would still look good! I hope I helped!

Hi! I too was wondering this, as I plan to take some film/english classes at my local community college for fun. I think that colleges will see this as impressive, and the application is not only your gpa, but how you perform in your classes, how hard the classes you take are (and since you take IB, they are hard, I'm in IB too lol), and your extracurriculars! Because you are taking an extra college class, I think schools will see that you're learning to learn and not just to get the grade, which is a good thing! The internship is very impressive alongside the extra class, which will show you're not getting lazy! Good luck, and I hope you get into your dream school :)
