I'm a rising senior and I already have my classes picked in which I chose AP Stats instead of AP Calc AB. I chose AP Stats cause I honestly think I would do better in the class, the teacher that teaches it I've had them before, and in general I think I prefer stats than calc. But from what I've heard it seems that AP Calc is the more ideal math to take for students who want to major in the natural sciences. So I'm wondering if I should change to AP Calc or would it not really make a difference in terms of admission chances. Also, thinking about it now I don't think I would mind taking AP Calc AB but ultimately I just want to make sure I made good choices with my class schedule.
Hi @ggg23!
Do you know what you want to major in specifically? If you're looking to go into engineering, for example, then calculus might be a better bet. But if calculus is not already a prerequisite for your intended major, then I'd say go with the class you'd enjoy most. You'll have a better time, you'll be more likely to get strong grades, and you'll be in a better position to get a recommendation letter from that teacher later on.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
