Can you use contractions in the common app essay.

I am unsure if you can because sometimes it is considered informal but i have heard that it is fine from others. Thanks!

Hi @Theodorian,

Yes you can use contractions in the common app essay. I would only caution you not to use them if your essay doesn't seem to flow or read better because of them. If you are looking for a way to increase word count, that might not be a "net-positive" thing to do which is replacing all words with contractions to gain say 10 more word count. It would be better to eliminate unnecessary sentences instead.
