Any affordable college counselors

Every single college advising package I see is thousands of dollars and just wondering if there are any affordable advisors.

I asked a similar question about college counselors if you wanted to reference it:(https://www.collegevine.com/questions/31654/are-college-advisors-worth-the-money#comment-14943)

If you need help with the ACT/SAT/ECs you could check out SuperTutorTV on YouTube. She also gives one-on-one lessons but I think those are still a little overpriced, but her youtube videos are free and I found them pretty helpful and informative. There's also just your normal high school counselor. If you have a good relationship with your probably very experienced counselor you can just talk with them.

My friend paid a ton of money to get a college counselor but in my friend's opinion the counselor didn't really do much instead of just "help" my friend go through the high school process of summer programs, SAT/ACT studying, picking class courses, and everything you could probably do yourself. Maybe the college counselor could write you a good recommendation letter, but you could just get that from a teacher.

However, in the end it's still up to you, but I recommend just following through with the free videos/resources available online. Good luck!!

I feel like the college counselling industry is sort of a scam. I think a lot of the advertising you see for these firms is pretty deceiving, because you always need to consider the following: the average <insert high-end college advising firm here> customer both comes from a family with really deep pockets, and has the motivation (and usually at least to a degree the ability) to get into an excellent university. This already sets them up for success, regardless of whether they receive counselling from <insert high-end college advising firm here> or not. So, my advice to you is to just go through this process on your own, and I'm also sure that your school probably has a college counsellor or something that can help you when in doubt.
