Answered

Since when i was a kid i loved cars, that makes me want to study mechanical engineering. But my dad thinks that in the nearest feature mechanical engineers will be rendered useless and he wants me to switch to Cyber space. What should i do??

Hi @Jamesadebajo,

Thanks for your question. I agree with your dad that mechanical engineering as a major is not as forward-thinking as cyber-engineering. I think there will be more job opportunities in VR going forward.

If you really like cars, then I would consider car design. Look into attending the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena where most of the prolific car designers attend.

These days the car trend seems to be either all electric motors or hybrid electric drives, so I don't think there is a whole lot going on with drive trains. If anything drive trains are becoming more standardized with fewer moving parts.

I do think the passenger environments are becoming more interesting with lighting moods, hand motion controls, self-driving modes, etc. Most of the cutting-edge tech in cars is not coming from the mechanical engineering side.

Good luck.
