How do I include high school teaching assistant position in common app?
Answered

I am a teaching assistant at my high school for a business course. The teaching assistant position is considered an honor and is chosen based on grades, demeanor, teacher nomination, etc.

I do earn a grade for the teaching assistant position. On my transcript it’s listed as principles of teaching. I don’t think that class title provides a clear description nor delineates that I’m a teaching assistant.

I have it listed in the activities section of common app to better depict my role and responsibilities as TA.

Is this okay to list as an activity? I heard one college advisor say that anything for a grade should not be in activity section but if I don’t include it there, I’m not sure where else I would delineate it in common app.

Hi @Gator06!

You can put this in your extracurriculars list, but I wouldn't bother including it if you already have ten activities. In this case it'd be similar to marching band or theater, where it's still really an activity even if you get a grade.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I would put it in additional information. That's where everything you can't fit somewhere else goes, and this is definitely in that category. If it's on your transcript and part of a class, don't list it as an activity.
