I was planning on applying to Yale Young Global Scholars Program but then I saw one of the listed requirements of being 16 by the starting date of the program. I am looking for a Summer Program of 3-6 weeks ideally under 15k which will let me stay on campus. I’m in 10th grade turning 15 in March 2023. I’m an international student so I don’t want ones that offer credit( I don’t want to apply for a student visa yet). Any suggestions?
@MariaSare these pay-to-play programs are not very prestigious, especially if you are not doing it for college credit. If your and your parent's goal is to get you accepted into a Top 20 college and you have the means, I think now would be a perfect time to apply to US Boarding schools like Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield, Loomis, Lawrenceville, St. Pauls, and Hotchkiss. If you spend 11th/12th at one of these schools you will improve your chances tremendously. Look into that instead of doing these expensive summer programs. Applications are due Jan 1 and Jan 15. You have plenty of time to get your application in and take the qualifying exams called the SSAT. Typically the admit rate to Ivys is about 30% for these students versus around 4% something. About 15-20% of each class are Int'l Students so there are about 30-50 students in each grade that come from outside the US.
Good luck.
For a summer program maybe check out School of the New York Times? It doesn't offer credit, it's around $5k, and it's good for almost any type of writing. I met some people there from tons of other countries, especially Asia, Brazil, and Britain. It's 3 weeks unless you take more than 1 class and it definitely works for your age, I knew some 14 and15 year olds there!
