Can I start two supplementals the same way?
Answered

I'm answering a supplemental that asks about an experience in which I exchanged beliefs/had my beliefs challenged. I naturally want to start the essay with dialogue, but I've already done that with another supplemental for the same college, so I'm worried it would be too repetitive. (For context, the dialogue in the other supplemental was a question used to start an anecdote, and was the only significant dialogue in that essay; for the one I'm currently writing, there would be a bit more.)

If it is for the same school, I would not do this. It is likely that your application will be read by the same person and they will view this as a shortcut. I'd recommend finding a second example to discuss in the second essay, even if the topic is relevant to both prompts.

I think reusing your original essays to answer similar prompts at multiple colleges is an example of working smarter, not harder.

It is ill-advised to repeat sentences, any themes, or any stories that are either similar or over-lap with something already submitted.

I wouldn't say that.
