Admissions Advice

Should I add my manga project to my activities?

I'm a sophomore in high school and don't have a lot of ties to my school. I'm a straight-A honors student who has volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center and I have some recognition for my artistic abilities. I'm in the process of creating a manga that will be taking off roughly a year from now. I've been working on the project for at least two years and plan to carry it through college. Is it worth adding?

If it's going into an Activities slot that would otherwise go empty, then I don't see the harm! It could also show that you have well-rounded interests, if you haven't mentioned art elsewhere, or drive home the art interest by showing an interesting medium/form of art you like.

You say it'll be taking off a year from now- if you mean being published or something similar, then DEFINITELY MENTION THIS. Being published or recognised in some way is a pretty good feat- I also do art but mostly graphic design and fine art, and I wasn't going to include it in my app until I got exhibited at a local gallery. Mentioning this shows that your art is good enough that other people want to see it, which shows how good it is!

Considering you've already got the grades and the environmentalism aspect, I think showing a different side of you will definitely add more depth to your application.

Good luck with your application!

Yes, absolutely add it, but don't mention anything that isn't certain to be true. If you know it will be published in a year, sure, say that, but if you just think it will be a hit, only talk about the process/progress you have made/hours.
