PVSA (President's Volunteer Service Award) on College Applications
Answered

I was wondering how significant is PVSA on college applications and whether getting this award would help categorize the extracurricular activity at a higher tier (for example a tier 1 or 2 vs tier 3 or 4)?

Hi @parvat98

These are good awards to put down on your common app, but not super impressive awards for college admissions to say Top 50 schools. I think it depends on your award level. Bronze - Tier 4, Silver -Tier 3, and Gold either a 2 or 3 depending on what your impact actually was. Definitely not a tier 1 activity.

And to clarify things, you do not get some numerical bump for getting this certificate along with your EC activity associated with the award. So if you volunteered as a Board member on your City Council for 2 years and 200 hours, it still going to be a Tier 2.
