yes for sure, if you cannot find a mentor there are agencies that have mentors that wil. teach you how to do research and be your co-Author and write your letters of recommendations

Writing a research paper as a sophomore will look great to Ivy League schools! Even if your paper does not get published, the effort you put in will demonstrate your intellectual abilities and ambition.
