My Nigerian sister, I am also Nigerian so I understand you I am in SS3 and here are some things I'd advise you to do

Focus on your grades very well so that your high school transcript will be stellar also Try and take The SAT and aim for a good score of 1480+ start preparing for your WAEC early if you'd be writing it

Also your Extracurricular activities I recommend you take them seriously I know how unserious some Nigerian schools take them that's why you should take individual initiative when it comes to this

CMU shouldn't be the only school on your list try and craft a school list using the college vine resources available to you

Best of luck!

As an international applicant, the only exam that you may be required to take is an English test. This is only a requirement if the main language of instruction at your school is not English. Several exams are accepted - I recommend the online Duolingo test the most.

Taking the SAT or ACT is also a good idea, but it is not essential due to CMU's test-optional policies. If you score a 1500/34 or above, I recommend submitting the score. If not, you can simply apply test-optional. Submitting a good score will give you an admissions boost, but not submitting a score will not decrease your chances greatly.

When it comes to GPA, you will want to earn grades that are equivalent to at least a 3.7 unweighted GPA on the American scale. You can boost your weighted GPA by taking the most rigorous classes possible. Colleges will not penalize you if your school does not allow you to choose more advanced classes; but if your school offers lots of IB classes, for example, they will want to see you take a full IB course load.

Hope this helps!
