Summer Progams/Legacy
Answered

Hey! My dream school is Notre Dame and I was just curious how much summer programs/legacy affects their decision. I have 3 people in my intermediate family who went to Notre Dame, and I am applying to Notre Dame Leadership Seminars and Notre Dame Summer Scholars. I was just curious how these programs will help my admittance since I know legacy is considered pretty strongly at Notre Dame. Please let me know. Thanks!

Legacy status will increase your chances by 10-30% - the higher part of the range is most likely for you, since Notre Dame values legacy more than other schools and you have multiple family members who are alumni.

Notre Dame Leadership Seminars and Notre Dame Summer Scholars will both give you a boost as well. The fact that they are Notre Dame programs will not be what helps you, since schools do not want their pre-college programs to become a pay-to-play admissions pipeline. Rather, the benefit of the programs is that they are some of the best pre-college programs out there. They will give you the same boost at Notre Dame as they will at other schools. I'd rank them as Tier 2 activities.

Hope this helps!

I believe that having summer programs will push your chances since colleges like to see you having extracurriculars and they would like to see you making an effort and stretching your abilities in the summer as well. Being a legacy helps as well. If you have good grades, extracurriculars, and are doing summer programs, I believe you have a good chance of getting into Notre Dame.

I wish you luck, hope this helps!
