How do colleges like Stanford and other T-20s look at a B in AP Calc BC (sophomore year) for prospective STEM majors?
Answered

I have a 3.95 currently, and am taking 5 APs (I plan to take 6 in Junior year.) In terms of extracurriculars, I do research outside and will have a research paper published in the fall (as well as a presentation at a research conference.) I have also qualified for the AIME, and am president of two clubs (3 more waiting for approval) at my school. I have also qualified for Quiz-bowl Individual Player Nationals (this year, for the first time,) and am currently writing software for the medical industry and for tutoring purposes. I also coach for the Mathcounts Foundation at a local middle school. I also have awards for conducting individual research at the county level.

Thank you for responding, as I am freaking out over the possibility that I might not be able to attend my dream schools. I tried asking others previously, and most have said that I may have ruined my chances, and that I should aim lower :(.

Hi @TI-84!

A "B" in AP Calc BC is not the end of the world. It's a hard class, so colleges won't look down upon you for a B in it when you're taking it with 4 other AP classes. One thing that can compensate for the B is getting a 5 on the AP Calc BC test, which shouldn't be too hard considering that the Calc BC test has one of the most generous curves. I don't remember the exact number, but you can get a 5 by getting around 70% of the questions right.

Hope this helps!
