^^^ this is a contest that I won twice in a row, but only at the regional level. It was a silver-tier regional award for novel writing (both times) but I am unsure of how to put it on my profile. Which tier would it be considered on CollegeVine's level of achievement? Also, is this something worth mentioning to colleges? Thanks in advance.
Edit: I am planning on being a mathematics/econ major. Sorry I forgot to mention it initially.
Congratulations on earning two consecutive Scholastic Art & Writing Awards! That's really incredible. The silver-tier regional prize for novel writing, in my opinion, is a fantastic accomplishment, and you should definitely make mention of it in your profile and college applications. Colleges prefer to see applicants who are active in extracurricular activities and thrive in their areas of interest. Winning this award clearly demonstrates your writing talent and potential as a writer, and it's definitely something you should be proud of. As for which tier it would be considered on CollegeVine's level of achievement, I think it could be placed under "Visual Arts" for "Tier 2B- Very Strong". The reason is because under this tier, it mentions "I won a city or regional art award" and you've mentioned, "this is a contest that I won twice in a row, but only at the regional level". There might be another section that fits your award better but this is just what tier I think your award would fit under. I hope this helps!
that's awesome! if your major has to do with writing or something in that field, it would be a great extracurricular. you should definitely mention it however if you are doing another major and have extracurriculars that pertain to that major more, put the other extracurriculars.
Hey there @hai_c!
I've also won a Silver Key regional award, as well as three Gold Key regional awards, and a Silver Medal national award. I have mine listed as 1C-Exceptional in the 'Writing' category (I've also won a few school-level awards and had my writing published in a school magazine), but I think without the national award, I'd list it as 2a or 2b under the 'Writing' category.
You should definitely mention this in your college applications, especially if you like writing and plan to major in something that requires a lot of it. Colleges love to see people who persue their interests and achieve success in things they enjoy, and since you've won Scholastic Awards multiple times, it'd for sure worth mentioning.
Also, congratulations!!!
