Hi! I'm a high school freshman with a 3.95 GPA (soon to be 3.975). I am interested in going to school for politics, language, or music (I am undecided). All my dream schools are highly competitive, from 9% to 5% acceptance rates, and are currently reach schools for me. I would love to raise my chances of being admitted, so any suggestions would be helpful. (My extracurricular activities include volleyball, piano, voice, theater, and I also coach golf.) Thanks so much!
bro youre only a freshie and you already have tons of extracurriculars and almost a 4.0 gpa. so youre already doing fantastic.
if i had to give you advice, id say to practice test-taking for the sat/act. college board has some sneaky tricks up their sleeve and dumb testing roadblocks, so learning how to navigate those and navigate them quickly is important. a lot of the simple tricks an sat tutor could teach you can be found on youtube.
also practice writing essays!! a good essay will help you stand out from the crowd of star students and showcase your individuality. the essay makes a big difference; my mom grew up in a poor area and had low grades, but her essay was really good, so she got into one of the best schools in the state.
also, try to pour a lot of your attention into just one extracurricular. college admissions officers have said this: anyone can be well-rounded and participate in a ton of stuff, but it doesnt make them interesting. not saying to cut a bunch of activities. whichever activity or few activities youre the most passionate about, pour a ton of time and effort into those, and colleges will get a better sense of who you are as a person.
above all else keep in mind youre already crushing it dude like this is way better than i couldve done
