Is going to a Technical school wreck your chances into getting into an top 20 college ?
Answered

Hi, I am a Sophomore that goes to a technical school that wants to go to a top 20 college for its marine biology program; I am very involved in my school. I take all honors classes and am the vice president of SADD, and I also have a 4.0 GPA. Also, my School does not provide any language or AP classes. Only a handful of kids have been accepted into a top 20 college at my school.

So Is going to a technical school wreak my chances of getting into my dream school?

Going to a technical school will not harm your chances; rather, not many students at technical schools apply to Top 20 colleges in the first place. That may explain why few students at your school have gone to the top colleges.

So long as you take the most rigorous classes available to you and do well in them, you will be academically qualified for the Top 20s. Having a high SAT score will serve you well too. Continue to do strong extracurriculars, and most importantly, write creative essays! If you become a competitive applicant, you could even gain an advantage because your technical school background will make you diverse compared to the average applicant (who goes to private school or a public school in a high-income area). Hope this helps!
