A to an A-

I got an A for my AP CALC AB in my Junior year first semester but an A- in my junior year second semester. I missed the A grade by 0.5%

Is this considered going downward direction. ? Do I need to provide explanation.

Also since this my last semester before I apply for colleges, what can I do to recover ?

Thanks.

The only explanation you need to give is how you decided to post this question since 99% of people know that AP Calc is impossibly hard and colleges only care that you challenged yourself with the most difficult course rigor. Even a B+, B wouldn't raise concern for most colleges.

You can't recover but you can overcompensate by taking a college-level higher maths course this summer online and getting an A. Something like Real Analysis, Differential Equations, Multi-variable Calculus, or Linear algebra.

no college is going to hold an A- against you. especially considering the difficulty of ap calc ab, an a- is a good grade. you could argue that a b could hurt you for top colleges (although I disagree) but an A is an A and will ultimately have the same impact on your hs gpa. this is not considered a downward trend in grades, so please don't sweat it.

Don't worry. There is really no differences between an A and an A-. A 00.5% is barely a difference anyway. Colleges don't really care so your all good.
