Admissions Advice

When should I get my letters of recommendation?
Answered

Currently, I am going to be a senior this fall, and I just want to know when it's the right time to ask and to apply for colleges.

Now! I sent emails to my teachers this June! This is a perfect time, they remember how you were in class and have enough time to think about what to write! Make sure to write a thank you letter and talk about your growth from the class and ask for them to do your teacher recommendation letter!

Hello, I would recommend asking your recommenders at least a month before your application deadlines. If you have either heard or you know the person you're asking for recommendation letters is slow or is extremely busy, ask them as soon as possible. The common app opens on August 1st, I believe the fall 2023 application cycle will also happen on August 1st, so asking them when school starts is perfect!

Hey there @isa-soph24!

I would recommend starting to get letters of recommendation as soon as you get back to school. At my school, juniors do it in the spring because teachers need time to write the letters, especially for early application students. College applications start in the fall, but many continue into January too.
