Question on application
Answered

I want to do a biomed engineering major. But my personal statement, I wrote on my personal journey of rediscovering my cultural identity through music and founded a non-profit to help others do the same - it was really personal to me. I want to know if that paints my whole application as weird or it’s ok. I am interested in music but want to major in biomed engineering. Is it okay?

Yes, of course! While having a cohesive application is important, demonstrating interest in multiple areas can show admissions officers how multifaceted your passions are, and, in turn, what else you might bring to the campus. This can be especially helpful with subjects like heritage, or one that sharply contrasts with your major, as in your case. I'd say just review the narrative you're portraying as a whole, double check that it sounds like the same person wrote everything, and it should be okay. Best of luck to you!

yes, in fact writing abt your interest in music for your personal statement will show that you are a well-rounded applicant with diverse interests. Definitely go for it!
