So I am currently a rising senior and I was supposed to hold several leadership positions for activities starting the new school year. If my activities will be canceled due to the pandemic, will I still be able to include these new leadership positions or no? If not, will this hurt my application?

Yes you can include them but if you really want to preserve the impact these activities would have had then you should find a way for your activities to remain active.

On your application, in the case that your activities were canceled, you can put on the application (I would suggest in the COVID-19 section now included) that you were supposed to hold X, Y, and Z title of X, Y, and Z club/organization but was unable to due to COVID. I don't think it will hurt your application because colleges understand that you can't hold these titles due tot he pandemic. They're human beings too and they are living the difficulties that COVID has brought as well. I' sure you'll be fine. Best of luck with this year and hope this helps.

Yes you can include them but if you really want to preserve the impact these activities would have had then you should find a way for your activities to remain active. For example, my Model UN club is working with other schools in our district to try and have a virtual conference. It doesn't have to be as extensive as that though, just make an effort to be a leader and keep the activities running through the pandemic in whatever way you can.

hey we did the same thing, that’s so cool! it was really strange doing a virtual conference but i recommend if you’re going to do it again use Zoom since they can hold breakout rooms/crisis rooms :)
Same here. We are trying to organize a virtual certamen for our Latin Club and researching online robotics competitions, possibly with more emphasis on coding for our robotics club.

I’m just gonna echo what the others are saying, so if you like this answer give them the credit lol. Basically - yes, you do get credit since you were selected for an officer position, but it also doesn’t count for much since you actually can’t show anything for it. I agree that in some way you need to take initiative to either continue the club virtually or sell organize some sort of events through the club to keep membership active. If it’s not actually through the club, you can still do something outside of it with the members, even if it’s the people in the club you’re friends with and y’all group FaceTime once a week to keep up with club events. You want to show “assumed” or “demonstrated” leadership as opposed to title leadership.
