Chances vs acceptance rate
Answered

Hello,

If the chancing simulator says there is an x% chance, how should I understand that in the context of the acceptance rate of a university?

An example if the chancing simulator says 20% and the acceptance rate is 9% - what should I make out of it?

Thanks in advance for the time and help.

CV thinks that you have a 1 in 5 chance of getting into that school even though the acceptance rate is 9% or 1 in 11. That means you have a better chance than many applicants applying to the same school.

A 50% CV chacing rate is still a coin toss so don't get your hopes up, you have an 80% chance of not getting in.

So if you want to apply to this school, you have there are many things you can do to improve your odds such as improvements in your grades, test scores, significance and impact of your ECs plus some things that CV doesn't capture like writing great essays, getting superior recommendations and having some hook like being a recruited athlete or legacy.

I believe CV still considers 20% of schools a reach so make sure you mix that up with some target and safety schools as well.
