How much should I raise for a nonprofit?

Hello!

I started a nonprofit almost a year ago and have raised about 50k since then. However, I worry if this is not as impressive to competitive colleges like Havard, CMU, UPENN, Northwestern, etc.

Is raising 50k enough to get into a school like these assuming my other extracurriculars are decent (but not as high in value as the nonprofit)? Or should I raise more? If so, how much is considered impressive?

Thank you!

Raising 50k is a crazy amount that no college expects a student to accomplish. Schools like Harvard, CMU, UPENN, and Northwestern are going to see you as an exceptional candidate with a very probable chance of getting in.

But nothing is a "sure-fire" method of getting in. For one, if your cause appears to be random and shallow (in the sense that it's apparent you're only doing it for college applications) then they most certainly will reject you. However, if it is evidently important to you, and you've focused yourself and your aspirations around the foundation, they will see you as a hardworking and successful person who could use their resources to become even more successful.

Either way, this is an incredible accomplishment that you should be proud of. There's very little chance that anyone who raises that much for a cause wouldn't care about it, so I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. if this is the strongest aspect of your application, lean on it heavily in your essays and talk about why it's important to you, because if you do I know that you could easily get into all of these schools (fingers crossed!)

I wish you the best of luck on your college applications!
