Should I answer the optional question?
Answered

I'm a senior applying out-of-state to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and I cannot decide whether to fill out the optional Short-Answer Question and the Required Short-Answer or just fill out the required short answer, I don't know what to do.

Definitely fill out the recommended short answer. I have never heard an admission officer say not to. Suggested items are their way of judging your interest in the school. Sure you may have excellent grades and ECs and you don't need the extra help to look good, but if another student has a slightly lower GPA than you and they answered the recommended short answer, chances are they will be placed higher than you.
