Hi, I'm a freshman who's applying to Harvard and MIT for Computer Science, and I recently got a B on my first semester finals exam for English. I thought it was my strongest subject, but I suppose grading English can be very subjective. Long story short, I ended up with a B+ for English this semester, leaving my GPA at 3.85. It was the only B on my report card, and I'm really surprised I did so poorly. I know I can make up my weighted (taking 14 weighted classes) and unweighted GPA, but I'm worried that getting a B in an easy, unweighted class is going to look really bad on my college applications. If there's anything I can do to remedy this, please let me know. Thank you!
Hey @gamedev-and-bball ! As a fellow freshman, I want to tell you, do not worry about it, your GPA does matter, but if you are also going to take Honor and AP later, you can get your weighted GPA, and if you can get A in your class in the 2nd semester, you should be higher than 3.9 if you get 4.0 GPA in the 2nd semester.
Another important thing I want to tell you is ECs, your academics matter, but if your ECs are good, your GPA being 3.85 will be fine, also 3.85 can easily be brought up since this is 1 semester.
In short, You are doing good, keep getting more As to bring your GPA up, and make sure to not forget about your ECs.
Best of luck!

yes, but you a freshman so just get 3.6+ GPA in the rest of high school and get a B at least in a hard AP class like calculus and you'll get into anything you want, try doing remote internships.
