Repost: Should I email colleges if I put inaccurate information on my application?

Hello!

In my awards section on my common application, I accidentally stated I won 6th place at the National History Day contest (state), when I actually won 5th place. Is this something that I should email every college to have changed? Would it look bad if I did email them? It would be about 18 colleges.

Thank you!

I'm not sure if this is a big enough mistake to email colleges over. There's not a huge difference between getting fifth and sixth place, and it probably wasn't going to be a deciding factor in your application anyway. Maybe see what your college counselor has to say?

I would talk with a trusted teacher/mentor/high school counselor/parent and see what they think. Mistakes like this stink but some lesser ones we have to let go. Not sure what would best in this situation :(
