Hey guys.
I want to major in Mechanical Engineering. I'm a Junior, and I'm talking Honors Precalc atm. I got a B- last year, and I underestimate my ability in the class. I'm thinking of taking Calc AB because of that.
What I want to ask is how will that impact my admissions chances compared to me taking Calc BC next year?
Hi! To my understanding, the main differences between Calc AB and BC is that BC goes a bit more into the details, and BC usually has 2 extra units compared to AB. Taking BC would be more useful to a Mechanical Engineering major, however AB would be easier and less demanding than BC. If you can manage to really learn the content in Precalc, then definitely go for BC. BC would also look better for a college application, as it shows that you challenge yourself academically. Hope this helps!

If you succeed in Precalc, I would advise that you take Calc BC. If you have time over the summer/before senior year, you might want to look at Khan Academy and familiarize yourself with the basic aspects of Calc AB, as that might help make BC less challenging for you by helping you get the big ideas out of the way. Then, you could delve into more detail in BC without getting entirely lost. BC would help your application more, especially as you are applying as an engineering major.
