Do APS boost your chances for getting into a good college?

I'm a junior in high school, and I haven't taken any honors or AP classes because my mom said I didn't need to. Now that everyone is getting ready to apply to college, I'm hearing a lot about how important AP classes are for getting into competitive colleges. But I've also heard that AP classes don't actually help your chances. I'm really confused about this :')

AP classes are very important for competitive colleges; as premier academic institutions, prestigious colleges want to see a transcript with course rigor that proves that you can handle college-level courses. They also significantly boost your GPA, which is also a major factor for admission at some of your top colleges.

APs definitely add weight to your application. I could not take AP though, so I took dual enrollment instead, which is still a advanced class.

If you are not going to a competitive college, advanced classes don't matter as much. However, advanced classes are vital if you are hoping to attend an excellent university.

Hope this helps and please lmk if you have any questions.
