foreign language requirement
Answered

Hey

Does taking your native "foreign" language as the foreign elective credit harm an applicant's chances at admissions to the top colleges?

Thanks

As far as I know, it can affect your application's favorability in the eyes of the admissions officers at these top colleges. This is mainly due to them looking to see if you pushed yourself to do stuff out of your comfort zone and succeed, and taking a "foreign" language in one you already know doesn't show that. To them, this will look like you took the easy way out instead of taking a foreign language in something you don't know and actually challenging yourself. While I don't know what level of "foreign" language you took as long as you have multiple other APs, Honors, or college-level courses they should make up for that and maybe even overshadow it.
