Admissions Advice

Is this a good topic and opening for my common app essay?
Answered

I haven't written the actual essay yet, but I want to know if it's a good starting point or topic for me to write about. The opening line is: "Some people have butterflies in their stomachs; I have butterflies in my brain." It basically follows how butterflies have impacted my life, both the actual insect and the Butterfly Effect, and how that has inspired me to strive to do good in every action I make. If I write about this (and well) could it help me stand out in my applications even though my major (psychology) isn't related to the topic? Some other essay ideas I've had are my struggle and eventual success in learning a skill in gymnastics, my disconnect from my culture and my subsequent desire to connect more with it, and an analysis on the inner conflict I struggled with when I changed my name. Thank you so much and any advice is greatly appreciated!

I really like this! I think that you honestly could tie your major into it as the butterfly effect can technically fall under the psychological effect the of Chaos Theory. Have fun with it and be original!!
