I’m a rising junior without much extra curriculars, and I want to start working on them this summer. My goal is to get into brown PLME or into a good pre med college like Hopkins, but more realistically into a good pre med school. I’m CPR certified and looking to volunteer at a hospital this summer, but otherwise my school doesn’t offer many extracurriculars and I don’t have many opportunities. What are the best ways to strengthen my chances of getting in? Is there any way for me to still have a good shot at getting in or should I lower my expectations?
Hi, I'm also a junior & here's what I think (sorry, I can see this post is very outdated). In the time we have left till apps, you could try to improve a space you're already involved in (like hosting a blood drive with the church, teaching CPR + emergency response to local kids etc), develop a simple solution for a community-level health challenge (not as bad as it seems, just create something usable and try to test it out, like researching caffeine use then developing a tool to help people struggling with it), seek out lab assistant roles (by emailing grad students/professors), see if you can get CNA or EMT certified, or become an assisted living/senior home volunteer. Really, play to your strengths and if circumstances made things difficult for you to participate in, you should should share that when you apply and articulate your interests/personal experiences in your essay!
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Thank you so much for responding! Sorry if this is dumb but how do you go about doing something like hosting a blood drive or a CPR class? Also is this like the bare minimum to try to increase my chances because no one in my school really does anything like that so I am really unfamiliar with these types of activities. it’s a very small private school that isn’t so strong on academics. Again, thank you for responding I did not think anyone would see this lol
