hi! im going into my junior year of highschool. my goal is to go to a selective college (i've been looking at georgetown, george washington, american university, northeastern, etc) to study international relations and political science and eventually work at a ngo to promote diplomacy and aid to those struggling from international conflicts. my academics are fairly good (im not sure of my weighted gpa but my unweighted is around a 4.0 and i was 3rd in my class out of 360 both my freshman and sophomore year, taking the sat in the fall), and i'm involved in lots of clubs at my school (student council, environmental club, newspaper, mental health club, dance marathon for cancer, culture club, community service, etc) and i plan to join honor societies. my main concern is finding opportunities to focus on the international relations aspect of my application. we unfortunately don't have a model un program at our school. any things i should consider doing to strengthen my application?
wait ur goated
You're already on such a strong path—your GPA, extracurriculars, and passion for international relations are really impressive! Since you're targeting top-tier schools, you might want to explore international programs, online diplomacy courses, or even virtual internships with global organizations.
Also, keep in mind that many selective universities (especially if you're considering overseas options) require proof of English proficiency through exams like PTE. It’s good to start practicing early, and I found gurully.com super helpful—they offer free practice tests tailored to each question type.
Wishing you the best in your journey—you’re clearly putting in the work! 🌍📚
why don't you create a Model UN chapter for your school? I think that'll be something impactful you can talk about in your application
aside from that, you can look for internships
