Admissions Advice

Are my extracirriculars too late?

I immigrated to the USA in my soph year of high school and obviously spent the first year just understanding the world here. In in my summer after junior year now and I finally get the hang of things and now I know I need to have a theme in my application and all that -- but I am just startting things and I know colleges love to see commitment in the activities and depth. Am i too screwed if I did most of my ECs literally 6 months before applying????

Maybe you can stand out with your essay. I heard a lot of stories with basic-level extracurriculars (like playing in a band for 2 months or writing one article to the school's newspaper) which end with success. You can stand out with academics and personal statements. You're not screwed but of course it'd be better if you started earlier.
