Hello,
I am a rising senior, and I plan to submit my college application papers (for UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Georgetown, Rochester U, Virginia Tech, and the University of Michigan) in November. I have a feeling that this is a critical moment in my academic life, and I'd appreciate any advice on my overall activities. I'll list them below:
Extracurriculars and Awards:
9th grade: minister's award for a nationwide creativity competition, an international English competition 1st place award, science fair 1st place, participated in YMUN
10th grade: got a certificate from the University of Michigan on Python programming, got a citizenship award, and the Eagle Award (it's the highest award overall) from school, StuCo Secretary, NHS member
11th grade: 2nd place in science fair, translated an engineering class in college to Spanish (English <--> Spanish), and translated for an international conference in smart cities (English <--> Spanish), StuCo Treasurer, NHS vice president
12th grade: elected as StuCo president
Academics:
9th-10th: All A's and A+'s
11th: 3A-'s, rest are all A's and A+'s.
APs (I took them all in 11th grade):
Psych: 4
English Literature: 3
Computer Science A: 3
Statistics: 2
SAT: 1440 (I'm planning on retaking it this August)
These are my stats so far, and since I'm an international student, I don't know where I am with my current activities. Could someone tell me which colleges are realistic options for me? How should I cover up my AP exam scores?
Thank you in advance for the answers!
You do not need to cover up your AP scores. You can choose to not self-report them. Also, AP scores are not considered as a huge part of the admissions process -- they more so reinforce your academic potential. For testing purposes, the SAT/ACT is 10x more important.
Heyy, long story short, yes! Tests don't determine who you are, and your extracurriculars have shown that you're a very well rounded and high achieving person. Your grades are also super good and you do so much outside of school things, you're more than set to get into a good college, regardless of your AP scores. You have a lot of good schools listed, you will be just fine!!
Based on your stats, I think you might have a shot at UC Irvine, Rochester, and Viginia Tech. You will probably get rejected by Cornell and UC Berkeley. However, AP's are not really that important in the college admissions process. If you want to get into colleges like Cornell, you should probably try and aim for between a 1530-1560 on your SAT. Hope this helps.
Pretty sure you would have a realistic shot at Irvine, Rochester, and Virginia (maybe Umich) depending on your essays. You have pretty good ec's and decent stats but admission is harder for international students. Good luck!

I didn't know SAT had that much weight in admissions. Thanks for the advice👍
